Instead of just a simple 1-line description, sometimes it's nice to put out more about an item to draw interest from would-be collectors and others who are passionate with our hobby, as well as stimulate those with inquisitive minds.
After collecting for sometime, I now look for error notes that are puzzling and different from the rest, and I love viewing them even if I don’t end up buying. But this one I had to get and I’ve been attached to it after spending time trying to figure out how these 2 errors came about. I know I will miss this note, so it’s fine if it stays here on Ebay for awhile so I and many others can continue to view it and try to come up with answers - a welcome break from the current events. This hobby is our mental vacation, and will always be our
happy
place!
Affected area is massive: a big blank on more than half of the face of the note from the left side and ending with a slight slant in the middle, leaving just a hint of Benjamin Franklin's image.
When something blocks the printing on the note, it results in a blank area; thus, the obstructed printing error.
The first printing is the back/reverse of the note, and that back is fine.
The second printing is the front/face. "Second Print Obstructed" is attributed on the label, and that caused the huge blank on the front left of the note.
The third/overprint/last printing is for the black Federal Reserve seal on the left, the green Treasury seal on the right, and the serial numbers on both ends. Everything for the third printing is on this note but, although not mentioned on the label or the cause thereof,
the black seal is missing!
Where did the black seal go? It was not printed on the back of the note after a (possible) foldover, so could it have been printed on an obstructive fragment? Such fragment was not retained, so there's no conclusive evidence of that.
Regardless, if that missing black seal was a result of another obstruction (as I’ve seen in other notes, labeled as obstructed/obstruction) then this note was obstructed not once but TWICE, successively? 2 errors on the same note is rare; second
AND
third print partial obstructions, I think much rarer, maybe even unique.
Those 2 errors thru successive obstructions, that looks like a probable explanation to me. And there could even be more possibilities if the missing black seal was caused by maybe something else like a: defective piece in the printing mechanism, loss of black ink, or foldover (as evidenced by some embossed letters appearing lightly on the blank side) getting involved. Forming a number of speculations is a good mental exercise and makes this note a really fun conversational/debatable piece. I’m putting up this error note with an initial high buy-it-now price so it can stay on eBay for awhile for viewers to enjoy.
For new collectors: This note has a low 35 (exactly halfway from a perfect 70) grade, probably as a result of wear and countless transfer of hands. However, it is intact with no tears and no holes. It is well centered and the corners/edges look good. This note is really odd but it must be genuine because PMG certified it
and
it is annotated with  "Exceptional Paper Quality". That no one immediately kept it for care or certification when it was new, I find very surprising because the errors are blatant. However, while condition is important, I think that if an item is rare or unique, its grade becomes secondary.
This is a high denomination note and, as of posting time, I have not seen another one with the same exact double error on eBay; it could be the only 0 (or any denomination) with this kind of error.
