1991 D.P. Salazar Studio Art Glass Paperweight or MarbleDescription and Item Information
Up for sale is this fish marble or small paperweight by glass artist, D. P. Salazar. Please excuse any glare in the photos. This piece is small, like a studio glass marble, but it does have a flat, polished base, so it may be considered a mini paperweight. Whatever you want to call it, it is beautiful. The design features an undersea scene with an angelfish. This piece measures approximately 1 1/2 inches across. Unpacked, it weighs 3.0 ounces. This would be a lovely addition to a studio glass collection.
Identification
This piece is by D. P. Salazar, thought to be David P. Salazar (there also is a Daniel Salazar who is a glass artist). It is dated 3/91, so it was made in March of 1991. Per David P. Salazar's website, he has been a glassblower and glass designer for over 40 years. In 1972, he began working at Lundberg Studios in Davenport, California. Salazar became their chief designer. During this period of his career, some of his pieces were exhibited at the Corning Museum of Glass. Also during this time, Salazar became associated with Larry Selman, one of the foremost paperweight dealers in the world. Salazar's work was featured in many of Selman’s catalogues, and also in books on paperweight collecting. He exhibited pieces at the Tiffany Exhibit for the Museum of Art in Chicago. In 1988, Salazar began making marbles in flower and sea life patterns. One of his angelfish marbles was featured in the April 1988 issue of Smithsonian Magazine.
