DO YOU HAVE ACNE PRONE SKIN OR DARK MARKS CAUSED BY ACNE MARKS?
Did you know that lactic acid peels can dramatically improve your skin? read more
If you've never used lactic acid, you might feel a bit nervous, because, let's face it, "peeling" using acid sounds a bit intimidating. Doesn't it? Lactic acid is a hydroxy acid made from fermented milk and other types of sugars. The reason it works so well is that it chemically dries out the outer damaged layer of skin so that newer softer undamaged skin becomes visible.
There are several types of skin peels, but Lactic acid peel is the gentlest of the AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) familiy.  It is gentle in the sense that it's a superficial peel, especially at a lower strength. This means that it does not penetrate all the layers of your skin like some other stronger peels do. The advantage of this is that if you were to mess up during the peeling process, the damage done would be minimal and not permanent.
Benefits Of Using Lactic Acid Peels
Prevents acne and acne formation through exfoliation.
Acne prone skin naturally doesn't shed dead skin cells as regularly as it should. This is because most acne prone skin is oily. Lactic acid helps to exfoliate the skin by dissolving the 'glue' that holds the dead skin cells on the surface of your skin. Exfoliation ensures that the pores are not clogged or inflamed which keeps acne away.
    Brightens the skin.
Lactic acid does this by speeding up the cell turnover rate. The cell turnover rate is the rate at which old skin cells are shed and replaced by new ones. The new skin cells are brighter and smoother compared to the old ones. Cell turnover rate is higher in babies and children. As we age, this process slows down a lot and lactic acid helps with this process. This helps the skin look young, fresh and bright.
    Improves signs of aging.
Lactic acid stimulates collagen renewal which keeps the skin looking tight, firm, and smooth.
    Improves
    Hyper-pigmentation
    or Dark Spots
    .
Lactic acid does this by removing the top damaged layer of the skin, thereby, revealing a healthier and even skin tone underneath.
Improves the water barrier function of the skin.
Lactic acid helps keep the skin moist by improving the water-holding capacity of the skin.
What Should You Expect When You Use Lactic Acid Peel?
The process will take about Seven days from start (application) to finish (peeling). For some people, the skin might peel and quite honestly, it might look disgusting. Don't be tempted to pick at it or 'help' by exfoliating or scrubbing.
Leave it alone! Yet some people, may not have this 'problem'. Personally, I like it when my skin hangs off my face during the peeling process (only). It's like working out and sweating like crazy. You feel like you accomplished something. Please, don't freak out if your skin does not behave this way.
When you first apply the peel, your skin will feel soft. The next day, will look shiny but still soft.
Your skin may begin the process of peeling on the 2nd or 3rd day. During this time, your skin will feel pretty rough when you touch it. Weirdly enough, it won't feel dry.
You may experience a lot of itching. The itching can be pretty bad but don't give in! This is a battle you are going to win. find a way to distract yourself. The itch comes and goes.
Depending on your skin color, your skin may look red.
If you've never used lactic acid peel before, start out with a lower strength such as 25%. With each use, your skin will get used to it and you can go up to stronger acid depending on your needs.
Sometimes, just one peel is enough. However, most often than not, you will need more than one peel to achieve your goals. As lactic acid is a superficial peel and, therefore, does not penetrate all layers of the skin, you will need multiple peels. You can do the peel every 10 days.
How to apply Lactic Acid Peel.
It is good practice to do a patch test. This will be a sure way to find out if you are allergic or not.
    What you will need:
    -Cotton balls
-Neutralizer - a mixture of water and baking soda.
    -A clean towel
    -Timer
Wash your face with a good cleansing soap.
Dry your face with a towel.
Wet a cotton ball with the lactic acid and apply evenly to your face avoiding sensitive areas such as your near your eyes.
Leave the acid on your face for 5 mins. Use a timer.
Fan your face so that the acid can dry on your face and also to alleviate the itch.
Once the timer goes off, Apply the neutralizer using a clean cotton ball.
Wash your face with cool water.
    Dry your face.
*Don't ever leave the peel on for longer than recommended. Depending on the strength of the peel and what you wish to achieve, you can use the peel every 10 days. Sometimes, just one peel is enough but it is up to you and the results you wish to achieve
