San Francisco California. It closed it's doors in Mar 21,1963
it was Established July 1,1934 it was 1.25 Miles off shore
from San Francisco.it was a prime location at that time for
a prison. When on Island, it was 1 1/2 Mile to transport Dock.\

Golden Gate National Recreation Area and any signs are the property of the government. Don't fool yourself thinking you can or DO own an original/authentic sign from Alcatraz. ANYONE who "thinks" he/she DOES own an "era authentic ALCATRAZ sign" has either bought a fake sign or is in possession of stolen property. Now you have the facts.
