Description
Ed Rithner was born in 1890 and began working in glass before 1910.In 1939 he left the Crescent Glass Company (West Virginia) and began creating off-hand glass items including paperweights.
This Upright Flower weight is one of his classic designs.
Jean Melvin, writing in her book "American Glass Paperweights and Their Makers" describes one weight as "An eight petal daisy-type flower".
Rithner's flowers are readily recognized as unique as the petals have colored edges that contrast with the petal color.
This paperweight has a Red multi-petal upright flower with White petal edges and centers, all above a crimped Red and White ground that is pulled down with tiny accent bubbles around the outer edge and the center.
This paperweight is 3-1/16" in diameter and 2-3/4" high.
It is not signed, however attribution is positive. The base rim shows wear appropriate for the age (probably 70-80 years old).
There is a tiny bit of micro wear to the surface that is essentially invisible except under strong reflected light.
Condition is essentially perfect.
Buyer pays shipping at post office cost as calculated by eBay.
